Five people will be produced at the Ba Magistrate Court today in relation to the Vatia drug seizure.
This includes a 49-year-old foreign national, a 33-year-old unemployed woman, a 40-year-old boat captain, a 34 and a 39-year-old self-employed men, all from Suva.
Police say following consultations with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), the five accused persons have been charged with a count of conspiracy to commit importation of illicit drugs.
It is alleged that between the 1st day of November, 2025 and the 15th day of January, 2026, in and around Fiji, the five accused conspired amongst themselves and with others to unlawfully import, transport, transfer and the storage of 2644 kg of illicit Drugs.
In addition, the foreign national has been charged with two counts of possession of items believed to be proceeds of crime.
The 33-year-old woman and the 34-year-old self-employed man have each been charged with a count of possession of items believed to be proceeds of crime.
The Fiji Police Force investigation team will continue to pursue further leads arising from this case.
