2 dead in tragic Sigatoka crash, driver allegedly drunk

A man and a woman have died in a tragic accident this morning where the driver was allegedly heavily intoxicated.

Police confirm that at about 2am this morning, on Queens Road in Kulukulu, Sigatoka, a car driven by a man carrying 4 passengers was heading towards Sigatoka and crashed into an electric post, causing the death of the 2 victims.

They say that the driver, failed to negotiate a bend which caused the accident.

Two people including the driver, are still admitted at the hospital.

Director Traffic and Transport Control, Senior Superintendent of Police Mitieli Divuana says it Is sad that this is the second fatal accident within the area in just 24 hours.

SSP Divuana says they are calling on all drivers to be responsible while driving and to consider the lives of their passengers and pedestrians.

He adds that Police and the Land Transport Authority will continue to be out on the roads to ensure everyone's safety.
