Fashion designer aims to have all her products 100% biodegradable and recyclable

Performance artist turned fashion designer, Letila Mitchell says her aim is to get to a place where all of her products are 100% biodegradable and completely recyclable as she prepares to showcase her designs during the 15th Palmolive Fiji Fashion Week tomorrow.

While speaking during the Sustainabili-tea panel discussion on sustainable fashion and design, Mitchell says a lot of work has been about looking at best practices, honouring elders and ancestors knowledge and looking at how to bring it back into the creative and contemporary space.

She further says she has moved away from mass manufacturing and has gone back to her original model of working with women in the community where all the women who produce her work are all stay-at-home mums.

Mitchell adds it helps them support their kids and families and also they are also able to honour things that I need to do for her work such as using organic fibres or not throwing away off cuts.

The FJFWxPalmolive 2022 will be live on the FM96 Instagram page.

The Resort Cruise Runway will be tomorrow and the Resort Luxe Runway will be on Saturday. The shows are expected to start at 6pm at the Vodafone Arena.
