Sinal Shilanjli Goundar, the wife of late Ritnesh Chand, who died yesterday while carrying out his duties in Nasese, is calling for a thorough investigation into the incident, including an examination of the Suva City Council garbage truck and questioning of the driver, contractor and dog owners in the area.
33-year-old Goundar says she wants to know what really happened, as the supervisor initially told the family that her husband had fainted and needed to be taken to the hospital.
She says they were later informed that a pack of dogs had chased 40-year-old Chand, causing him to attempt to grab onto a moving Suva City Council garbage truck, but he slipped and fell before being run over by the vehicle.
In an interview with fijivillage News at their Narere home, she says doctors who conducted the post-mortem this morning told her that Chand died from multiple rib fractures sustained in a fatal road accident.

She also wants to know how the vehicle ran over her husband, and whether the driver was under the influence or if fatigue may have played a role.
Goundar says dog owners should ensure their animals are secured during garbage collection times.
She adds that she has also heard welding work had been carried out on the truck’s step and wants to know whether the vehicle had been properly inspected.
The Suva City Council and Police have not yet responded to our questions.
