Mata Dance Group after the Sisi dance production

Mata Dance Group's Team Leader, Tevita Tobeyaweni says negligence, violence, sexual abuse, drug abuse, and depression are some risk factors that dictate the lives of young men and women out in the streets of Suva City.

He made this comment during their concert, a 45-minute production of "SISI", a dance production that depicts the reality of life in the streets of Suva.

More than 100 people attended the 45-minute production at the Playhouse in Suva performed by the Mata Dance Group.

Tobeyaweni says this production got its name from the slang “gone-sisi” which is mostly used to categorise youths that roam the cities and towns day and night.

He says the production was only supposed to be about the lives of the kids and youths living on the streets but as this was a broad topic, they decided to break it into series to clearly depict the reality of youths living on the streets.

He adds there are plans to move the production throughout Fiji.

He says the turn-out was a testament that people do care about the children on the streets.

The Mata Dance Group is also looking to expand its membership and will be hosting an audition in January next year.
