Residents in Lautoka have raised serious concerns about their safety following an increase in criminal activities in the city.

A resident, who wished to remain anonymous, told fijivillage News that some residents of Vunato Settlement claim drug dealing, brawls and other criminal activities are taking place in the Rifle Range informal settlement.

He adds that last Saturday, he witnessed a Bangladeshi being robbed by a man where money was stolen.

He also shares another incident where a parked car was reportedly broken into early in the morning while it was parked on the roadside adding activities as such continue to increase.

The resident says many people are now being extra cautious when going into town, while senior citizens are choosing to travel with family or neighbours for safety.

Meanwhile, residents have also raised concerns about school students loitering after hours and are calling on authorities to increase patrols in the area.

Questions have been sent to Police. They are yet to answer.
