The engineering company consulting WG International Real Estate Company Fiji Limited on the construction of the 28 storey luxury hotel and convention centre along Suva’s McGregor Road is concerned about the misinformation being spread about the project.
Engineered Designs Director Vijay Krishnan says they are following all the right processes.
An independent panel including three engineers was appointed to advise the Suva City Council regarding the project.
Krishnan says he is aware of the independent panel but is also concerned that they have not contacted Engineered Designs which is the engineering consultant on the project.
He says after talking with their lawyers, they will make a comprehensive statement tomorrow to expose those spreading wrong information about the project.
Fijivillage understands that the engineers met with the Suva City Council on Monday to discuss the project.
There have been claims about the Suva City Council issuing an order to stop work at the site after claims about structural steel frames corroding at the building site and also the materials not being up to standard.
Works are continuing at the construction site.
WG International Real Estate Company Fiji Limited Spokesperson William Wu has told us that the only notice they received was from the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism after concerns that the materials they were using were not up to standard.
Wu says this problem was resolved after necessary checks were made.
The Chinese company has pumped about $115 million into its WG Friendship Plaza, with an inventory of over 300 rooms, a conference facility, observatory tower, boutique shopping arcade and healthcare and entertainment complexes.
Work on the WG Friendship Plaza began in 2016, and is expected to be completed in May 2019.
An official within the Suva City Council has confirmed that they did not issue an order to stop work at the WG Friendship Plaza construction site.
