A 42 year old man who struggled, faced many challenges and worked hard to start his own business of Cyber Foods is now providing employment to people who have lost their jobs or had their working hours reduced due to the impacts of COVID-19.

Majid Shahzad who is the Director of Cyber Foods launched Fiji’s first ever online food delivery service business in 2018 in Suva, and then expanded to Nadi and Lautoka.

He has provided employment to a number of people who own cars but have lost their jobs or have their working hours reduced due to this pandemic.

While sharing his story, Shahzad says many people discouraged him by saying his idea will not work and that his investment will be wasted.

He says his businesses got badly impacted after the first wave of COVID-19 in Nadi, however he did not lose hope.

Shahzad says although his business activity had dropped in Nadi, it boosted in Suva when people started working from home, to the extent that he had to buy new cars to meet the demand.

He says he only received 4 orders per day when he started his business but now he is receiving more than 250 orders per day.

Shahzad says during the current situation, people are also ordering food and groceries for their loved ones who are in quarantine and lockdown areas.

Cyber Foods is an online website which provides service seven days a week in Suva, Nadi and Lautoka to people who want to order food, groceries and other essential items online.

It gives a wide range of restaurants to choose from located to the customers’ nearest area to order food online which the riders deliver at the customers’ doorsteps.

He says the employees are following all COVID-19 protocols by sanitizing cars, their hands and cash as well.

There is another feature called ‘manual feature’ which provides options to order groceries and food from restaurants which are not available on the website.

Customers are required to provide their name, number, delivery address and restaurant they want to order from and details of the menu under the manual option.

Groceries can also be ordered under the manual feature for people living in Suva where the customers are required to include the grocery list and medical prescriptions if they want to order medications or essential items like masks and hand sanitizers.

You can access the website on https://cyberfood.com.fj/ or call 5050.
