The Pacific Recycling Foundation celebrated its 1st anniversary and launched a brand-new website to commemorate it.

Founder of PRF and CEO of Waste Recyclers Fiji Limited, Amitesh Deo says the website will play a critical role in advocating the key messages.

The site will assist people to understand the environmental, economic and social benefits of recycling.

The founder says they are also exploring further technological advancements for environmental sustainability to limit the use of paper.

Deo says PRF was officially registered on 24th May 2022, but the journey started 29 years ago with a clear vision of bringing recycling to Fiji.

He says they realised during COVID-19 the need for an organisation that could provide structured support to vulnerable groups in waste picking.

Deo says women waste pickers started to experience domestic violence during the lockdown.

He adds in the first year they have launched first-of-its-kind recycling programs and research projects towards recycling and conducted empowerment sessions for those involved in informal waste picking.

Deo says they will conduct a mapping exercise of the waste-picking community in Fiji that will enable them to provide structured support to the waste pickers.

fijivillage News has asked the Pacific Recycling Foundation how much funds they received in their first year of operation, who provided the funds and how this has been utilised.

Deo says they are working with the government agencies and NGOs on the upcoming projects.

On the amount of funds and utilisation, Deo says they will come back to us on this.
