The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) Fiji has welcomed the 2026/2027 National Budget, describing the newly announced animal welfare measures as groundbreaking and a major step forward for the care and protection of animals in the country.
SPCA Fiji says they are grateful that the Government has introduced a new incentive package to support the establishment of veterinary centres, animal sanctuaries and animal welfare facilities.
SPCA Fiji has also welcomed the introduction of a 200 percent tax deduction for donations made to qualifying animal welfare organisations, saying it will encourage more people and businesses to support animal welfare initiatives.
The organisation says the new measures will make essential veterinary care more accessible, support the creation of safe havens for animals in need and provide donors with a significant financial incentive to contribute to its lifesaving work.
SPCA Fiji says under the new tax incentive, a person who donates $100 to a qualifying animal welfare organisation will be able to claim $200 against their taxable income, effectively doubling the tax deduction available for donations.
They say it is excited by the Government's commitment to improving the well-being of animals and looks forward to working with authorities to maximise the opportunities created through the Budget.
SPCA Fiji is also calling on members of the public to support its mission through donations as it prepares for what it describes as a new era of animal care in Fiji.
