Second chance at life for PSH head chef

Second chance at life for PSH head chef

It was a moment of relief for 33-year-old Rishil Ravnit Kumar, head chef at Pacific Specialist Healthcare Hospital, after PSH founder and Chief Executive Officer Parvish Kumar offered to personally cover the cost of his heart treatment.

Kumar says he discovered that he needed heart bypass surgery when he underwent an echocardiogram and angiogram after experiencing severe chest pains and shortness of breath.

However, Kumar says he was unable to afford the surgery at short notice but is grateful for the support, which he describes as giving him a second chance at life.

Kumar says he initially consulted PSH interventional cardiologist Dr Srikar Miryala, who conducted the necessary tests along with the hospital's heart team, including consultant cardiologist Dr Omar Niazi and cardiothoracic and vascular surgeon Dr Sanjeev Kumar Khulbey, who recommended Total Arterial Revascularisation and Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting, commonly known as heart bypass surgery, rather than angioplasty or stenting.

The head chef says he underwent surgery on May 12 and was back on his feet and walking normally three days later.

Kumar says he is now fully recovered and has returned to work as the hospital's head chef.

He has also thanked the hospital's cardiologists and ICU team for caring for him before and after the surgery.

Meanwhile, PSH Hospitals founder and CEO Parvish Kumar says the successful surgery demonstrates the capability of the hospital's heart team to perform complex cardiac procedures.
