Plans unveiled on tourism development of Lau group
Plans on how the main islands in the Lau group can become tourism communities through infrastructure development and education services were unveiled this morning at the Lau tourism community workshop in Suva.

Provincial Administrator for Lau, Samuela Delai said that as part of governments development plans for the Lau group, main islands like Lakeba, Vanuabalavu and Cicia will need road upgrading works to accommodate for tourists traveling for sightseeing in the areas.

Delai said that the Lau group has the potential resources, however the challenge is travelling to each island as they are scattered.

Delai said added that telecommunication lines in Vanuabalavu and Lakeba will also need to be upgraded for better services.

He also said that education improvements such as new computers and distance flexible learning are some of the development aims government is currently looking into.

The workshop continues this afternoon.
