The National Fire Authority has once again called on all bus companies to install fire extinguishers in their buses after fire fighters attended to a bus fire incident this morning and found out that there were no fire extinguishers in the bus.
The NFA said the incident happened at about 7.30 this morning when approaching the Suva Bus Stand, the driver noticed smoke coming out from the engine compartment of the bus.
Chief Fire Officer, Tupou Saumbulinayau said the firefighters used water from the tank supply to cool the engine.
There were passengers on board who escaped injuries.
Meanwhile, according to the NFA, initial investigations indicate mechanical problems however the Land Transport Authority is expected to conduct further investigations.
Both LTA and the Transport Ministry had earlier stated that regular checks on buses will be conducted to ensure that they are safe for passengers.
LTA is yet to comment on why no fire extinguisher was in the bus.
