Lack of funds did not stop Niusawa Methodist Secondary athletes
Lack of funds or proper training facilities did not stop the eight athletes from Niusawa Methodist Secondary in Taveuni achieving 7 medals at the Coca Cola Games in their first outing.

Head Boy, Peni Dekedeke who won a bronze and a silver medal in the senior boys long and triple jump events said the team first had to overcome a major obstacle and that was to get funding for their trip to Suva.

Dekedeke said with the help of the parents and other students they had a mufti day and soli in order to meet their expenses to take part in the games.

Senior grade team mate Isikeli Seru said winning bronze was a proud achievement for him given the fact that he was training barefoot on gravel road every morning.

He wore track shoes for the first time on Saturday.
