Fiji was and will remain the focal point of the Pacific region.
These were the words of Kiribati President Anote Tong at a joint press conference yesterday following the conclusion of the Engaging with the Pacific meeting.
After reading out the 20 point Natadola Communique, Tong stressed that Fiji will always remain an important partner for all Pacific Island states.
Pacific Island leaders have agreed for more cooperation to explore mining and fisheries opportunities within the region.
At the conclusion of the Engaging with the Pacific meeting in Natadola yesterday, the leaders came out with a 20 point declaration through the Natadola Communique.
Solomon Islands Prime Minister Dr Derek Sikua also welcomed the proposals from the Papua New Guinea government for mining and exploration opportunities in PNG.
The leaders made 20 declarations through the Natadola Communique which stated that the leaders agreed that Fiji’s Strategic Framework for Change is a credible homegrown process of positioning Fiji as a modern nation and to hold true to democratic processes.
