The Fiji Prison and Correctional Services has introduced a policy guideline for the rehabilitation of prisoners.
Principal Prison Officer Fred Elbourne said the purpose of this new guideline is for officers to follow the correction procedures in the rehabilitation of hardcore prisoners.
According to the statistics provided by the FPCS, the rate for re-offending prisoners has decreased from 2008 which was 44% to 39% last year.
Elbourne said this new policy would include counseling and management amongst other things as government targets to reduce the re-offending rate to less than 25%.
He adds the rehabilitation policy has been adopted from countries where it has proven to be successful.
Meanwhile, the President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau will be visiting Naboro Prison for his first Official visit tomorrow.
