A 31 year old man convicted of rape will spend the next 9 years and 10 months behind bars.
The court heard that on 12th March last year, the victim who was drunk at the time was trying to catch a taxi to go and meet her boyfriend whom she earlier had a fight with, when Josateki Lulu raped her.
After considering the mitigating factors and time Lulu spent in remand, Justice Priyantha Fernando sentenced him to 9 years and 10 months imprisonment and ordered him to serve a minimum of 8 years during which he is not eligible to be released on parole.
