As hundreds of people came together in Labasa today to witness the opening of the National Agriculture Show, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka says the current weather forecast indicates the possibility of dry conditions through the end of 2026 and early 2027, and we must be fully prepared to overcome these problems.
The show started with a march and then went to Subrail Park for the grand opening of the 2026 National Agriculture Show.
Prime Minister Rabuka says agriculture plays a very important role in improving the health and productivity of our people.
Rabuka says we continue to face serious burdens of non-communicable diseases, with significant social and economic constraints, and agriculture can be part of this solution.
He says that growth in agriculture contributes to our national ambition for achieving a six percent growth rate by 2050.
The Prime Minister says they recognize the growing impact of climate change on agriculture.
Meanwhile, Divisional Agriculture Director Sugendra Prasad says the National Agriculture Show has returned to Labasa after six years, and it will help farmers learn a lot of things in terms of new technologies and to overcome the problems of drought.
