Hull City have made a dream start on their return to the Premier League after nine years away, stunning Manchester United 2–0 at the MKM Stadium.
The Tigers, promoted through the Championship play-offs last season, produced a disciplined and confident display to secure their first-ever top-flight victory over Manchester United.
Semi Ajayi opened the scoring in the 17th minute before Nobel Mendy doubled Hull’s lead in the 38th minute.
Manchester United dominated with 72 percent of possession and had 21 attempts, but struggled to turn their control into clear-cut opportunities.
Bryan Mbeumo, Bruno Fernandes and Matheus Cunha all tested Hull goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis.
Michael Carrick also introduced Marcus Rashford at half-time as he returned to the club following his loan spell at Barcelona, but the England forward was unable to inspire a comeback.
The win gives Hull City the perfect start on their Premier League return, while Manchester United will be looking for a quick response after a disappointing opening-day defeat.
Meanwhile, in other results, Everton beat Crystal Palace 2–0, Ipswich Town defeated Sunderland 2–1, Leeds United edged Nottingham Forest 1–0, while Brentford thrashed Tottenham Hotspur 3–0.
Tomorrow at 1am, Brighton & Hove Albion will face Aston Villa, while Manchester City will take on Bournemouth.
Newcastle United will host Liverpool at 3.30am.
