Argentina midfielder Leandro Paredes has been handed a 10-match international ban for his involvement in on-field clashes following Argentina's 1-0 loss to Spain in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final.
FIFA's disciplinary committee has also suspended Argentina defender Nahuel Molina for seven matches, with both players fined US$90,000 each.
The sanctions follow confrontations involving Argentina and Spain players and officials after the final whistle at the New York New Jersey Stadium.
Paredes was found to have grabbed Spain's Eric Garcia by the throat and wrestled Gavi to the ground before appearing to strike him in the face.
Spain midfielder Gavi and Argentina's Thiago Almada have each received a one-match suspension and a US$30,000 fine for their involvement in the confrontations.
Argentina coaching staff member Roberto Ayala has also been suspended for three matches and fined US$30,000 for striking Spain's Dani Olmo in the face.
The Argentinian Football Association has been fined US$321,000 for several breaches of FIFA's disciplinary code, including team misconduct and discriminatory chants and gestures by supporters.
Argentina have also been ordered to play their next two home matches at 50 percent capacity, although one of those matches has been suspended.
The AFA says it will appeal the sanctions and, if unsuccessful, will take the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
