Six years after Tropical Cyclone Yasa badly damaged Naivaka Primary School in Bua, the school still has not been fully rehabilitated and remains in need of significant repairs.

Education Minister Aseri Radrodro says the school is now among cyclone-affected schools referred to the Ministry of Strategic Planning for rehabilitation.

Radrodro told fijivillage News that the school was initially excluded from the list of schools identified for rehabilitation following an assessment carried out under the previous administration.

He says the Ministry of Education has since taken up the matter and referred the school to the Ministry of Strategic Planning.

Radrodro says the Ministry is also exploring funding from its building grant to assist with the rehabilitation, repairs and maintenance of the school.

He says up to $50,000 could be allocated through the building grant in the current financial year.

Radrodro says the allocation is still being considered, describing the rehabilitation of Naivaka Primary School as a work in progress.
