Cabinet’s ongoing talks do not affect voter registration process - Electoral Comm

The Electoral Commission and the Fijian Elections Office say Cabinet’s ongoing deliberations do not affect the voter registration process, and all eligible Fijians are encouraged to register.

They have acknowledged the Prime Minister’s announcement that Cabinet will decide on the Local Government Elections in two weeks and have assured all Fijians that the Nationwide Voter Registration and Awareness Drive under the YES Outreach programme will continue without interruption.

The Commission says the elections were initially scheduled for September 2026, and the Electoral Commission and the FEO await Cabinet’s final decision and will respond accordingly once it is formally communicated.

They reiterate that the Nationwide Voter Registration and Awareness Drive runs until 13th June and serves a dual purpose by strengthening both the Local Government Register of Voters and the National Register of Voters.

These registers form the foundation for the upcoming General Election, which may be called anytime between 7th August 2026 and 6th February 2027.

The Commission says that since voter registration for the Local Government Elections began on 13th April this year, Voter Services Centres have been progressively established across all 13 municipalities.

They say FEO teams operating nationwide have already provided registration and voter awareness services to approximately 16,125 Fijians in villages, settlements, secondary schools, tertiary institutions and business houses.

They say public response has been positive and reflects the strong desire among Fijians to participate in the democratic process.

The FEO urges all eligible citizens who have not yet registered, or who need to update their voter details, to visit their nearest Voter Services Centre without delay.

The Electoral Commission and the FEO say they will continue to engage constructively with the Government and all relevant stakeholders to ensure that the people of Fiji are able to exercise their democratic rights at both the local and national levels within the legal timeframe.

They say in doing so, Fiji’s electoral institutions reaffirm their unwavering commitment to delivering free, fair and credible elections in accordance with Sections 52 and 75(2) of the Constitution of the Republic of Fiji 2013.
