A man has lost his life after the truck he was driving collided with a Fiji Sugar Corporation locomotive at 3.20am yesterday at Natawa crossing at Tagitagi in Tavua.
Police say it is alleged that the two tonne truck, traveling at high speed ignored cautionary signals from the locomotive, and collided with the train.
Police say that investigations are on going and a post mortem will be conducted today.
In a statement, the Fiji Sugar Corporation revealed that the locomotive was already past the halfway mark on the highway, with the beacon lights on and the train’s horns blaringas the train progressed crossing the highway road, however the truck which was travelling from Ba towards Tavua, failed to stop, resulting in its collision with the locomotive.
