Tavua College has booked a spot in the Extra Fiji Secondary Schools Football Championship Under-19 final after a convincing 3-0 victory over Shree Guru Nanak Khalsa College in the semi-final at Subrail Park in Labasa this morning.
Tavua College started strongly, scoring an early goal before adding a second before half-time to take a comfortable 2-0 lead into the break.
Guru Nanak came out firing in the second half as they searched for a way back into the match, but Tavua College's defence remained solid and denied them any clear opportunities.
Tavua sealed the victory with a third goal from the penalty spot to secure their place in the final.
Speaking to fijivillage Sports, Tavua College coach Praneel Kumar described the semi-final as a tough encounter and says he was pleased with how his players executed their game plan.
Kumar says he instructed his players to apply pressure from the opening minute, and they responded well.
He says Tavua College last won the Under-19 title in 2019, and this year's team is confident of bringing the trophy back to Tavua.
Kumar believes having several players from the Tavua district team has also given the school an added advantage.
Meanwhile, the second Under-19 semi-final between Ba Sangam College and Labasa College is currently underway, with the final scheduled for 3pm today.
In other matches, Central College Lautoka takes on AD Patel College in the Under-15 final at 11am, while Labasa Muslim College faces Ba Sangam College in the Under-17 final at 12.30pm.
The Open Girls final between Dreketi Central College and Tavua College will kick off at 2pm at Subrail Park in Labasa.
