The Fiji Rugby Union is in discussions with an insurance company to explore setting up insurance structures to better protect younger players in the national team.
FRU Chief Executive Officer Koli Sewabu highlighted this when asked by fijivillage Sports about player welfare and some of the issues faced by players.
Sewabu says the newly established Fiji Rugby Players Association is now on board, and they will be working closely with them over the next few months to address these matters and build support structures.

The CEO also stated that several components still needs to be addressed, including the accreditation of player agents, proper setup of rugby academies, and the training and education of their provincial unions.
He adds that player welfare must be supported from grassroots all the way to the elite level.
