Prize money for next year’s FIFA World Cup will be 50 percent higher, with world governing body FIFA confirming a record US$727 million — equivalent to FJD$1.65 billion.

This amount will be awarded to participating teams at the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

The announcement comes amid criticism over the cost of tickets for the tournament.

BBC Sport reports that the World Cup winners will receive US$50 million.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino says the prize pool reflects how the 2026 tournament will be groundbreaking in terms of financial contribution to the global football community.

The FIFA World Cup will run from 9th June to 19th July, 2026.
