Queen Victoria School athlete Jhaire Cokanauto is looking forward to participating in his first Coca Cola Games this year and will be aiming to etch his name in the record books in the sub-junior long jump.

Cokanauto jumped a distance of 6.14 metres in the sub-junior long jump at the Coca Cola Tailevu Zone, breaking a 12-year record set by Ratu Davui (5.14 metres) of RKS in 2014.

His jump also broke the Coca Cola Games record of 6.12 metres set by Opeti Tikoisuva of Suva Grammar School last year.

Speaking to fijivillage Sports, Cokanauto says he will need to lift his training and ensure he manages his diet.

He says he participated in the same event during the Tuckers Ice Cream Games last year and won gold for Rakiraki District School.

He adds that he is confident that he can win gold for QVS in the Fiji Finals.

Another QVS athlete to look out for is Jone Raibevu, who clocked a manual time of 11.02 seconds to claim the blue ribbon event during the Tailevu Zone.

The QVS athletics squad is under the guidance of Pacific sprint king Banuve Tabukaucoro, who holds the Senior Boys 100 and 200 metres records, as well as the national records.

The Coca Cola Games will be held from next Thursday to Saturday at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
