Athletics Fiji's technical advisor Albert Miller believes that teachers need to have certain athletics qualifications to improve the standard of officiating athletics in Fiji.
With the Coca-Cola Games to be held next week, Miller says many athletes have been discouraged in the past due to the poor decision of officials.
Miller says that these mistakes can be minimized if they have certified officials.
Miller adds that a classic example was when it was announced that an athlete had broken the world record in the Suva Zone One when everyone knew that it was a manual time.
When questioned on the standard of the need to use electronic times in zone meets, Miller says this can be done but there is only one electronic timer in Fiji.
The electronic timer is only used in the Coca-Cola Games.
The Coke Games will be held next Thursday to Saturday at the ANZ Stadium.
Meanwhile Shop N Save Supermarket presented a $65,000 cheque to Athletics Fiji to support their strategic plans.
