All Blacks halfback Aaron Smith joins Ryan Lochte on sports 'anti‑heroes' list.
Ahead of the BBC's Sports Personality of the Year awards this weekend, The Guardian have taken the alternative view by naming their sports 'anti‑heroes' of 2016.
And Smith has found himself in infamous company following his indiscretion with a woman in a disabled toilet at Christchurch airport.
He joins disgraced US swimmer Ryan Lochte, who provided one of the stories of the Rio Olympics when he lied about being a victim of an armed hold‑up on a drunken night out.
Smith's moment of shame came after a member of the public filmed him entering a a disabled toilet with a female friend the day after a Rugby Championship test against South Africa.
He apologised for the incident, admitting to "a huge mistake, a huge error in judgment" and was stood down for one test by the All Blacks.
