New Zealand Prime Minister John Key says All Black Aaron Smith has clearly let himself and those that are close to him down after the halfback and a woman used a disabled toilet at Christchurch Airport.
Key says the All Blacks have been good role models in recent years under the leadership of Richie McCaw and Kieran Read.
The New Zealand Prime Minister agreed that Smith needed to be held to account for his actions but the punishment needs to be in proportion with his actions.
Christchurch Airport has deemed the rugby player's behaviour in the airport terminal's toilet as inappropriate.
The All Blacks star was seen entering a disabled toilet with a female after the test against the Springboks in Christchurch last month.
Smith has been given a one‑match ban.
It is understood that Aaron Smith entered the bathroom with a woman who is not his partner.
The All Blacks will take on the Springboks at 3.05am Sunday while the Pumas will meet the Wallabies at 6.30am.
