19-year-old Rupeni Caucaunibuca Junior is eager to continue the legacy of his father and former Flying Fijian winger Rupeni Caucaunibuca Senior, on the sporting arena after scooping the Blue Ribbon title during the Coca-Cola Triple N Zone meet.

The Triple N Zone is currently underway at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.

Caucaunibuca Junior clocked a time of 11.02 seconds in the 100-metre final, which he says he was surprised about.

During an interview with fijivillage News this morning, Junior says he was not expecting that result, but the words of his coach, “without faith, nothing can be achieved”, were lingering through his ears as he was preparing for the final.

Now, as he looks ahead to his final event of the day, the 200-metre finals, the Burerua, Sawakasa, Tailevu man believes he can scoop another gold medal and finish off the zone meet on a high.

Junior says he is also confident that he can provide a good challenge to all the Blue Ribbon champions from different zones during the National finals in two weeks.

He further says he is always motivated by his father as well who always tells him to make use of his talent whenever he can, whether on the tracks or the rugby field.

He says he wants to live up to his father’s legacy and possibly take the name to greater heights with his talent.

Junior is also part of the Naitasiri Secondary School U19 rugby league side that will be playing in the Fiji Secondary School Rugby League National quarter finals tomorrow in Nadi.

He will be leaving Suva after his 200-metre final race for Nadi to join up with his teammates who are already on their way to Nadi for tomorrow’s game.

Junior says he wants to make his dad proud and his family at home, as well.

Meanwhile, ACS and Lelean are currently leading the fijivillage medal tallies of the girls and boys divisions respectively as day 2 is now underway.

In the girls division, ACS currently has 13 gold, 12 silver and 12 bronze, Naitasiri Secondary is second with 3 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze, while Lomaivuna High School is third with 2 gold and 2 silver.

In the boys division, Lelean currently has 7 gold, 9 silver and 6 bronze, Sila Central is second with 6 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze, while Nakasi High School is third with 5 gold, 3 silver and 6 bronze.
