Players cannot flourish if they are not supported well- Acting FRU CEO
Acting Fiji Rugby Union CEO Koli Sewabu

Players cannot flourish if they are not supported well.

This is the mesage from Acting Fiji Rugby Union CEO Koli Sewabu while opening the second day of the Fiji Rugby Union 2025 Symposium held at Albert Park this morning.

He says today's theme "From grassroots to the top of the Tree" is the heart of our mission.

Sewabu says a tree cannot grow tall and strong without deep, healthy and widespread roots and in the same way, our aspirations to compete with and beat the world's best consistently, cannot be realised without a vibrant, well-structured and thriving grassroots system.

He adds this is where the Fijian flair is born and this is where future legends first pick up a rugby ball.

The Acting CEO says there is a need for better coaches, better strength and conditioning coaches, better governance from our schools, clubs and provinces, and better referees.

Sawabu says their vision is clear, which is to create an unbreakable chain of development where a young boy or girl in any corner of Fiji has a clear, supported and achievable pathway to representing their country on the world stage.

The FRU Symposium will conclude on Friday.
