A major grassroots football initiative was held in Labasa, where over 100 kindergarten students took part in a fun and educational football development programme.

This is all part of the Fiji Football Association’s drive to grow the sport from the ground up.

While speaking to fijivillage Sports, Development Officer for the Rewa-Suva region, Amit Prasad says the Early Childhood Education Tabu Soro Futupolo Comic Programme aims to give every child a chance to experience the game while also learning valuable life lessons.

He says this program is about more than just football — it teaches kids about healthy eating, recognising colours, and environmental care.

He adds that it is about keeping kids active and building good habits from an early age.

Prasad says the support from teachers and parents has been overwhelming, and the response from students even more encouraging.

He adds that while the goal is fun and fitness now, this is also the beginning of long-term football development in Fiji.

He says that by the time these kids are 12 or 13, they will have already built strong football skills and passion.

The ECE Tabu Soro Futupolo Comic Programme was launched in Ba earlier this year and has already reached kindergartens in Suva, Rewa, and now Labasa — with a target to visit 50 kindergartens by the end of the year.

He says a big turnout in Labasa today reflects the growing support for youth football development in Fiji — and with this kind of early investment, the future of the sport is looking bright.
