Nadroga/Navosa district coach Elia Launaqele

Nadroga/Navosa district coach Elia Launaqele says winning the first gold medal of the Fiji Primary School Tuckers Ice Cream Competition has greatly boosted the morale of his athletes.

Speaking to fijivillage Sports, Launaqele, who hails from Nuku in Serua, says the students are not only competing but also enjoying the experience of being part of the two-day event.

He says when they received the news that they had won the first gold medal of the day, through Siteri Nabite in the Under-13 girls 1,500 metres, it lifted the spirits of the entire team.

Launaqele says his message to the athletes heading into the competition was simple: to enjoy themselves and enjoy the experience.

He echoed sentiments shared by other team managers, saying winning is a bonus.

He is urging all participating students to showcase their God-given talents to their full potential and be good ambassadors of their schools and districts.

The Nadroga/Navosa team is staying at Veiuto Primary School during the competition, and Launaqele says they are grateful to be part of this year’s championship.

Nabite won the Games’ first gold medal with a time of 5 minutes 17.37 seconds.
