FILL‑IN Reds flyhalf Jake McIntyre has seen the writing on the wall at the Queensland Reds by signing with French club Agen.
No new contract was to be offered to the 23‑year‑old No.10 who has been both understudy to Quade Cooper and the man the Reds hoped would step into those sizeable boots last year when the Wallaby was playing in France himself.
When Cooper was red‑carded earlier this year, McIntyre’s chance to shine arrived but he was involved in losses in all three starts.
The Reds have struggled to nail down a true successor or understudy for Cooper with Sam Greene heading to Japan and Mack Mason departing for the NSW Waratahs in recent seasons when both were vying with McIntyre for chances.
The Reds will take on the Brumbies at 9.45pm Friday while the Force meet the Rebels at 11.55pm.
On Saturday the Waratahs take on the Jaguares at 9.45pm and on Sunday the Bulls face the Kings at 3.15am while the Stormers take on the Sunwolves at 5.30am.
