Where All Blacks captain Ardie Savea will play his Super Rugby could soon be revealed after the injured loose forward teased an announcement on Instagram.
Savea posted a video of himself signing a contract alongside a domestic departures board, with Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin among the destinations shown.
The 32-year-old is without a team for 2027 following Moana Pasifika’s demise.
He signed a three-year deal with Moana from 2025 but took a sabbatical in Japan during the second year, playing just 12 games for the club, and remains under contract with New Zealand Rugby for next year.
A move to the Blues would keep Savea in Auckland, although Auckland was notably absent from the departures board.
The Blues have lost senior duo Hoskins Sotutu and Dalton Papali’i to Europe, while Savea’s former Hurricanes coach Jason Holland will take charge in 2027.
A return to the Hurricanes appears less straightforward given their loose-forward depth, with Peter Lakai, Du’Plessis Kirifi and Brayden Iose all under contract, while 2025 New Zealand under-20 captain Mosese Bason is emerging as a long-term prospect.
