Fiji Kulas fell 3–0 to Papua New Guinea in the inaugural Women’s Melanesian Spearhead Group Prime Minister’s Cup final in Port Moresby, with the hosts proving too strong in challenging conditions.
PNG opened the scoring just before halftime to take a 1–0 lead into the break, before adding two more goals in the second half to secure the victory and lift the first ever MSG Prime Minister’s Cup title.
Head Coach Angeline Chua says it was a tough match and that both teams struggled with the ground condition.
She says the girls were unable to deliver their best performance for the fans due to the wet and heavy playing surface.
Chua adds that learning to adapt to different weather conditions is crucial, noting that it is important to train on such surfaces rather than only on dry pitches to prepare for matches like this.
