Playing rugby in Japan for the past 11 years, Fiji-born Japanese 7s player Josua Kerevi was thrilled to meet his fellow countrymen at the Games Village in Paris in preparation for the Olympic Games that will kick off tomorrow with the men’s football and men’s rugby 7s competition.

Kerevi, who started his rugby journey at the Veiuto Primary School, was selected to be part of the Japan Men’s 7s team after impressing the selectors during the World Rugby 7s Series.

He says it’s great to see a lot of Fijians at the Olympics with some of them he grew up with in Lautoka.

The 32-year-old says he is really blessed to be selected to be part of the Olympic team, and this is his first Olympic Games.

He adds his dreams have come true, and he will be doing his part on the field.

Kerevi was born and raised in Lautoka before the family moved to Suva where he attended Veiuto Primary School. His rugby career started at Veiuto, where he joined the Suva team for the Milo Kaji Rugby competition.

He then moved back to Lautoka to complete his secondary school studies at Natabua High School before getting a rugby scholarship to Japan.

Kerevi was also part of the Fiji Warriors team in 2015.

Japan’s first pool match will be against New Zealand at 4am tomorrow, then they will face Ireland at 7am tomorrow in their second pool match, before meeting South Africa at 2am Friday in their final pool match.
