The President of the Six Nations Council, who is also the Vice President of the French Rugby Federation and World Rugby High Performance Base leader, Abedelatif Benazzi, paid a courtesy visit to the Fiji Rugby Union this week to strengthen ties between the FRU and the French Rugby Federation.

In a brief video message this morning, FRU Acting Chief Executive Officer Koli Sewabu says the discussions focused on key development pathways to ensure young Fijian players are well-prepared as they transition to professional clubs in France’s Top 14 and other major European leagues.

Sewabu says that hundreds of Fijian players are currently competing in France and performing exceptionally well.

The CEO adds that the evolving partnership brings significant benefits, including enhanced player development, cultural exchange, and increased global competitiveness for both nations.

He also revealed that the talks explored new initiatives supported by the French Government’s Development Aid program and these initiatives are expected to play a vital role in advancing rugby development not only in Fiji and France but across the wider Pacific region.

Sewabu says that the visit marks a new chapter of opportunities following Fiji’s recent recognition as a Tier One rugby nation.
