The Vodafone Fijiana XVs and the Japan Sakura Women’s XVs teams were recognised for their milestone achievements of qualifying for the Women’s Rugby World Cup in England next year during a reception hosted by the Japan Ambassador to Fiji Rokuichiro Michii at his residence last night.

Fiji recently won the Oceania Women’s Rugby Championship that was held in Brisbane last two weeks and Japan took out the Asia Women’s Rugby Championship that was also held last two weeks.

The ambassador spoke highly of the achievements of the two teams and expressed his admiration for their dedication to the sport and their role as ambassadors of goodwill between their respective countries.

Fiji Rugby Union Board of Trustee Jenny Seeto also acknowledged the two teams’ achievement and further said that the players dedication and hard work have taken them to that level of competition.

Seeto says as both teams set their focus towards the World Cup next year, they need to be reminded that the two test matches ahead of them are crucial to their journey.

As the reception drew to a close, Seeto, the Assistant Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection, Sashi Kiran and the Japan Ambassador to Fiji were presented a Japanese jersey as a token of appreciation from the Japan Women’s Rugby captain.

The Fijiana will take on Japan at 6pm this Friday at the HFC Bank Stadium in the first test match.

The second test match will be at 6pm next Thursday at Churchill Park in Lautoka.

Tickets are $15 for the grandstand and $5 for grass seating and children under 12 will enjoy free admission.
