The Chiefs' problems have deepened with midfield back Jonathan Fa'auli banned for four weeks for a dangerous tackle.
Already heading to South Africa without prop Nepo Laulala because of concussion and Sam Cane looking to join the team late as he battles his own head injury, the Chiefs did not need Fa'auli's disciplinary issues.
But there was little hope of anything but a ban as Sanzaar continue their crack down on high shots.
The Chiefs will face the Stormers at 3.15am Sunday.
