Excitement is building at the Southern Zone rugby playoffs and finals as Suva Grammar School defeated Dudley High School 22-5 in the Under 14 grade.

Grammar put on a dominant display to overpower Dudley High School 22-5, setting the stage for an action-packed day of rugby.

The Marist Brothers High School edged Nasinu Secondary 17-13 in a thrilling Under 15 playoff, with the Flagstaff side’s solid defence proving the difference in a closely contested match.

The Under 16 clash between Gospel High School and Nasinu was equally intense, with Gospel emerging victorious 8-3, as fans from both sides cheered passionately from the sidelines.

The finals lineup promises more excitement this afternoon.

In the third-place playoffs, MBHS continued their strong run, defeating Nasinu Secondary 31-5 in the Under 14 grade and 17-14 in the Under 15 grade.

As a result, the Marist U14 and U15 teams have secured their spots in the national quarterfinals, where they will face Queen Victoria School and Ratu Kadavulevu School, respectively.

A total of five Marist teams have now qualified for the nationals, with their U16, U17 and U18 teams set to face Suva Grammar School for either first or second place in the Southern Zone.

Today’s finals will see Grammar take on Marist in the U16 final at 12.10pm, followed by the U17 showdown at 2.35pm.

The day will conclude with the much anticipated U18 final between the two powerhouse schools at 3pm.
