Defending U-19 champions of Fiji Secondary Schools IDC Tavua College wins first game

The defending champions of the U-19 grade of the 64th Digicel Fiji Secondary Schools Football IDC, Tavua College has beaten Nadogo Central College 2-0 in their first game in Lautoka.

Penaia Nagatalevu and Vilikesa Tuimavana scored the goals for Tavua College.

In another U-19 game, Xavier College defeated Vunimono High School 2-0.

In the girls division Nadroga Arya College beat Tavua College 1-0, defending champions Xavier College thrashed All Saints Secondary School 3-0, Vunimono High School defeated Vunimoli Islamia College 2-0 and Vashist Muni College drew with Sabeto College 0-0.

Meanwhile, while opening the championship last night, the Permanent Secretary for Education, Doctor Anjeela Jokhan says she was impressed to learn about the girls’ teams participating during the tournament.

She also says tournaments such as this invokes a sense of enthusiasm amongst young and aspirant soccer players.

The Permanent Secretary says they should recognise and emphasise the crucial role of sport and physical education and the development of young people.
