38th Annual General Meeting of Fiji Chess Federation called off by police

38th Annual General Meeting of Fiji Chess Federation called off by police

The 38th Annual General Meeting of the Fiji Chess Federation was called off by police last Saturday.

The federation says that executives, members, the federation’s lawyers and Fiji National Sports Commission representatives were present when a police officer ordered that the meeting could not proceed because the Chess Federation did not have a permit.

The federation’s lawyers have since confirmed that the officer was incorrect and a permit was not required for the meeting.

Sports Commission Executive Chairman Peter Mazey met Chess Federation President Calvin Prasad and presidential candidate Nouzab Fareed yesterday.

The federation claims that some of Fareed’s supporters had turned up at the meeting but were stopped by security as they were not registered as members.

It has now been agreed that they should resolve membership queries and reschedule the AGM accordingly.
