22-year-old Macca Springer has shown his long-term commitment to the Crusaders and has extended his contract through to 2028.

The former Waimea College student joined the Crusaders in 2021 as part of the U20 side before taking up national duties in the Oceania Rugby U20 Championship in 2022.

The New Zealand side was undefeated that year, reaching the team's fifth title since the competition began.

In 2023, Springer made his Super Rugby debut for the Crusaders against the Chiefs.

He says he has always wanted to be a Crusader.

He further says growing up in the region, he saw a lot of players from Tasman join the Crusaders, and this inspired him.

Springer says Dave Havili is someone he really looks up to, as he has played for both Tasman and the Crusaders.

The 22-year-old says the main reason he wanted to re-sign is the culture at the club.

Springer is second equal on the 2025 Super Rugby try-scoring ladder with eight tries so far this season – five of them were against the Western Force, where he tied Sean Wainui's record for most tries in a Super Rugby game.

Meanwhile, the Crusaders will host the Chiefs at 7.05pm this Saturday.

In other matches, the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua will host the Blues at 7.05pm Friday at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva, the Reds will meet the Waratahs at 9.35pm Friday, and the Force will face the Brumbies at 9.35pm Saturday.
