17 New South Wales players to undertake one of the most daunting tasks

17 players from New South Wales will undertake one of the most daunting tasks of their entire career as they will walk onto Suncorp Stadium in front of 50,000 screaming fans - mostly Queenslanders - and try to win a State of Origin decider.

Only two Blues teams before them have succeeded in pulling off the rare feat, and it hasn’t been done in 15 years.

Prior to that it was Laurie Daley’s team of 1994 that triumphed 27-12 at Suncorp - then Lang Park - with a young Brad Fittler scoring a try and kicking a field goal.

Fittler will now coach the side as they plot a game three boilover to steal victory from the hands of Queenslanders in the heart of the league-mad state.

Tonight will be the 21st time in State of Origin history the series has gone to a decider in game three, but the seventh time since 2011.

The Maroons are undoubtedly the kings of deciders, winning 13 to NSW’s five, and two series ending in draws.

Prior to the 2019 series, which the Blues won at ANZ Stadium, Queensland had won seven game three deciders in a row (2006, 2008, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2017).

And in Brisbane, Queensland has won eight of 11 deciders, including the past four.

If the Blues win tonight, they will become the first Origin team to win back-to-back series after losing game one in consecutive years.

The NSW Blues face the Queensland Maroons at 9.10 tonight in Brisbane.
