The Fiji Taxi Association says it has raised with the Fiji Competition and Consumer Commission its request for the current general taxi fare of 14 cents per 100 metres travelled to be retained.
Association President Mohammed Faiyaz says taxi operators from the Western Division and Suva attended a meeting Lautoka Club this week but FCCC was present.
Faiyaz says a submission presented at the meeting was based on discussions held with the FCCC Chief Executive Officer in Suva.
He says members also raised questions regarding FCCC’s media release, which stated that the new fare was effective from 1st July, but did not mention an end date.
However, FCCC had earlier announced on 11th August that the interim fare adjustment for taxi services, which came into effect from 1st July following a rise in international fuel prices, will cease from the end of this month.
Faiyaz says a letter received by the association stated that the previous old fare would take effect from 1st October.
He says the Association will submit its response by tomorrow after receiving submissions from its branches nationwide.
Faiyaz says the association is requesting that the fare remain in place for three to five years, provided fuel prices do not exceed $3.60 per litre.
