After fundraising and receiving strong support from their parents, four Holy Cross College netball teams have made the journey from Taveuni to Suva with hopes of taking national titles back home.
Holy Cross College teacher and coach Viliame Waqalevu says the school has brought its Under-14 girls, Under-15 girls, Open girls and Open boys teams to compete in the Fiji Secondary Schools Netball national tournament.
Waqalevu says one of their biggest challenges was raising enough money to travel from Taveuni to Suva.
He says the students carried out a number of fundraising activities and also contributed towards their travel expenses, while parents provided strong support to make the trip possible.
Holy Cross will be aiming for more national success, particularly through its Open girls team, which Waqalevu says has won the national title for the past two years.
He says their main goal is to defend the Open girls title and win the Under-14 competition, while they are also hoping for strong performances from their Under-15 girls and Open boys teams.
This is Waqavlevu's first year at Holy Cross College after spending the past five years teaching in the Western Division, and it is also his first time bringing the school teams to the national tournament in Suva.
He is calling on families and supporters from Taveuni who are in Suva to come out and support the students.
The national tournament will be held at Jai Narayan College, with the matchups and playing times expected to be confirmed following the AGM this afternoon.
