Switzerland have booked their place in the Round of 16 of the FIFA World Cup after defeating Algeria 2-0 in their Round of 32 clash.
Breel Embolo gave Switzerland the perfect start, finding the back of the net in the 10th minute to hand his side a 1-0 lead at halftime.
Dan Ndoye doubled the advantage just a minute into the second half, scoring in the 46th minute as Switzerland took control of the match.
Algeria were unable to find a way back into the contest as Switzerland held on to secure the win and advance to the next round.
Switzerland will face the winner of the Colombia and Ghana clash in the Round of 16.
In other results, Portugal have booked their place in the FIFA World Cup Round of 16 after coming from behind to beat Croatia 2-1 in a thrilling match.
They will now face European champions Spain at Dallas Stadium in Texas on Tuesday at 7am, after Spain also secured their place in the next round with a 3-0 win over Austria this morning.
In tomorrow’s Round of 32 matches, Australia will face Egypt at 6am, Cape Verde will face a stern test against Argentina at 10am, while Colombia will meet Ghana at 1.30pm.
