The upcoming Valladolid 7s tournament in Spain will be the first-ever competition where dual Olympic gold medallist Jerry Tuwai will be hands-on with the team following his appointment to the Assistant Coach role in April this year.
Tuwai says he has changed his approach to players from being a player to a coach’s perspective.
He says he will work on areas that lacked consistency in previous tournaments, such as attack, defence and the mental preparation of players.
Speaking on the players’ preparation for Spain, Tuwai highlighted that the players are ready to perform at their best and return Fiji to the top of the world again.
The Fiji Men’s 7s side is currently fifth on the World Rugby Sevens Championship points table following their fifth-place finish in Hong Kong last month.
They will open their campaign in Spain against France next Friday at 11.40pm.
They will then play the USA at 4.24am next Saturday before meeting hosts Spain at 12.12am next Sunday in their final pool match.
